Bow Classes
If you're interested in learning to make your own wood bows, you should consider taking one of Mike Yancey's bow building classes. As you will see below, there are some options. You can travel directly to Mike's shop and learn one-on-one (and still choose between two kinds of classes) or you can get a group of students together and arrange for Mike to come to your location. (See details below.)
One thing is certain, Mike not only knows how to build amazing primitive bows of all kinds, he is also a gifted teacher. His never ending patience and ability to communicate his craft clearly is appreciated by all his students.

Comprehensive Bow Building Class:
Learn to build beautiful and effective primitive bows like the ones pictured here!
Imagine, five full days of one on one training with master bowyer Mike Yancey. By the time you complete your training, you’ll leave with one completed bow and one roughed out bow to finish at home. It doesn’t get any better than this!
You’ll learn all basic bow building techniques plus:

Osage Orange Self Bow Building Class:
Who hasn't heard that Osage Orange is an awesome wood for self bows? On one hand, it's an amazing wood, but it can be tricky to work. Like most things that are worth doing, learning to work with Osage can take years of trial and error - OR - you can learn from someone who can share all the techniques and insights that make working with Osage a treat rather than a torture.
This class offers three days that are "All About Osage." You'll start with an Osage stave then learn the best techniques for getting the back down to one growth ring and how to work around and with the inherent waves, dips, and dives that naturally occur in Osage.
You'll learn all the nuances of working with Osage including:

This class will be
in Huntington Arkansas at the Sigma 3 Survival School
address.

Cost for the four day class is to be announced. Cost of the course does not cover cost of stave or material, we will have seasoned osage as well as hickory staves for sale at the event for 100.00 each for osage and 50.00 each for hickory.
This class will be done by Mike Yancey of Pine Hollow Longbows and
cover the making of selfbows and survival type bows with a minimum of
tools. You will finish a bow in the class and there will be all types of
supplies that you can buy while at the class. Bows built in this class
will be simple but very effective and deadly selfbows. Sinew and rawhide
backing will be discussed as well as types of strings and arrows.
This is a great opportunity to learn the basics in primitive bow-making and walk away with one that you made in the class.
